Welcome, baby Harry!
Is there anything more joyous than welcoming new life into this world?! The miracle of birth is truly one to be celebrated! What a pleasure to help Yunji and Changgeon photograph life at home with their newest bundle of joy during their newborn lifestyle session. The transition period of adjusting to a new baby is often hectic, sleep-deprived, and full of emotions. It is such a privilege to be invited in during this chaotic time as a family adapts to new rhythms of life. I am always honored when a family entrusts me to photograph these tender moments at home!
As soon as I walked in the door, Taeyeon could not WAIT to show me her new baby brother! It didn’t take long to see just how excited she was to be a big sister. It was clear how completely enamored she was with baby Harry and wanted to eagerly help in any way possible. While the “help” was a bit too enthusiastic at moments, it made it a piece of cake to get lots of adorable sibling shots. No bribery was needed to convince her to snuggle up with her brother and pretend like she loved him! Taeyeon especially loved my idea to compare would had bigger feet. As soon as I suggested it, she jumped up on the bed, pulled off her socks, and scooted right next to Harry. Of course this was all just a ploy for me to get this precious shot of sibling toes :D I mean, come oooooon. Is there anything cuter than tiny toes?? Easily one of my favorite shots from the session.
Taeyeon wasn’t the only one utterly taken by this sweet baby boy! The whole family was smitten with him from his head to his toes. Not hard to see why with all those perfect, squishy baby features. I could seriously photograph tiny baby toes and noses and fingers and ears for the rest of my life without ever tiring of them. They are just SO little! And they grow up way too darn fast :’( Fortunately photographs can magically freeze time. If only we could find a way to apply this magic to keep children from growing up so quickly…But until then, I am grateful for the small moments I can hold still for families through my magical (photography) superpowers!
And I don’t take these superpowers lightly! I know it is a special thing to be invited into someone’s home especially when you have a camera in tow. For many people (myself included), being photographed by a stranger can feel like a very vulnerable and uncomfortable thing. But when we are photographed by someone we know and trust many of our insecurities fade away. This is why it is SO important for me to form genuine connections with my clients! I want to be friend first, photographer second. Then it feels like a friend coming for a visit who just happens to also have a camera with her. As your friend-tographer (that’s me) helps you focus on your connection with loved ones, memories are created, the camera is forgotten, and everyone becomes a natural in front of the lens.
Yunji and Changgeon,
Thank you again for opening your home and family to me!! It truly was a privilege to celebrate the birth of your son with you and to capture some of his first days at home. I hope you continue to feel the love in these photos every time you look at them :)
XOXO,
Sebree
